SmartSkills is a free, virtual course for postdocs who are members of the NPA. Monthly classes are taught by experts and focus on building skills critical to career and personal success. Postdocs can earn a certificate from the
NPA by attending 10 out of the 12 skills classes.

Through a series of interactive online discussions led by the NPA, the summit seeked to identify barriers – and find paths forward – in the greater postdoctoral community that significantly and/or disproportionately impact international
scholars. Although the number of postdoctoral scholars in the United States today who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents now comprises a majority, these individuals face high barriers to success that demand greater attention
and understanding. Round table discussions took place on a variety of topics with NPA and its partners taking leadership roles in organizing each discussion. From greater understanding of the immigration process, to improved methods
of surviving the transition to the United States beyond one’s research, this summit is designed to shine a spotlight on issues that often create both anxiety and feelings of isolation for international postdocs. It is the hope
of the NPA and its allies that these conversations will lead to further discussions about specific issues and actions toward greater equity for international scholars in the postdoctoral community.

Through a series of interactive online race and ethnicity discussions led by the NPA and its partner organizations, the summit seeked to identify barriers – and find paths forward – in the greater postdoctoral community on the path to
racial and ethnic equality. Roundtable discussions on a variety of topics with NPA and its partners taking leadership roles in organizing each discussion took place. From diversifying the cohort of potential postdoctoral researchers
to promoting robust permanent position options after postdoctoral period completion, work needs to be performed in many areas to enable greater racial and ethnic equity. It is the hope of the NPA and its allies that these conversations
will lead to further discussions about specific issues and actions toward solutions in the racial and ethnic equity space.

The Gender Equity Summit was a series of interactive online gender equity discussions led by NPA and partner organizations, Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Association for Women in Science (AWIS), Higher Education
Research Consortium (HERC), and Out to Innovate (OTI). During five roundtable discussions, panelists lead interactive online discussions that raised issues and seeked paths forward on barriers in the postdoctoral community
toward gender equality.

Navigating the significant challenges and stressors we face daily as members of the research community, steering through the career exploration process, and the stress of life can seem overwhelming and lead us to doubt ourselves just
when we need confidence the most. The goal of Becoming a Resilient Scientist is to help you develop the resilience you need to navigate challenging situations at work and in life. The series consisted of five webinars,
each followed by a small group discussion the following week. Each discussion centered around the resilience of postdocs and postdoc office admins but will also include ways to apply the session material as participants move towards
becoming mentors in their fields.

Begins the third Monday of September
Since 2009, the NPA has sponsored National Postdoc Appreciation Day/Week to recognize the significant contributions that postdoctoral scholars make to U.S. research and discovery. Organizations from across the world participate by
holding special events. In 2010, this week was officially recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives. Events are held throughout the week and across the country to create awareness of postdocs.
