When striving to improve our lives, we’re quick to buy into programs that promise to help us make money, lose weight, or strengthen our relationships. While it might be easier to treat these critical areas in our lives as if they’re independent,
they’re not. Gallup’s comprehensive study of people in more than 150 countries revealed five universal, interconnected elements that shape our lives – career, social, financial, physical, and community well being. Learn how to enjoy
each day and get more out of your life, while boosting the well being of friends, family members, colleagues, and others in your community.

Future of Research College Park: Ethical and Inspiring Mentorship in STEM
The Ethical and Inspiring mentorship in STEMM conference will take place at the University of Maryland - College Park campus on Thursday, September 21, 2017.
Please join us to discuss ethical, effective, and inspiring mentorship practices. To register, sign-up here.
For more information, visit the Future of Research website.
This symposium has four goals:
- To recognize and discuss the issues surrounding mentoring in STEM fields.
- To discuss effective mentorship and advocacy techniques at all levels: doctoral, postdoc, faculty.
- To provide a platform to connect like-minded young scientists who wish to effect change at their own institutions at the grassroots level.
- To inspire participants to practice effective mentorship practices and promote these skill sets to their peers and colleagues at their own institutions.
Among the many roles that scientists play, mentoring younger scientists is one which researchers are rarely trained for. In the current STEM research environment, where lack of funding is but one of the systemic issues faced by young scientists, the roles,
responsibilities, and career trajectories are changing. Organizations such as Future of Research and Rescuing Biomedical Research have been formed in recent years to address systemic issues facing academic research. Others, such as the
National Mentoring Research Network, have arisen to address the training needs of those who wish to remain in academia but receive no formal training in how to supervise and mentor students. Still, there are gaps in the cultural awareness
and value of being an inspiring leader, promoting a positive work environment, and in having happy, mentally fit employees. Where other industries recognize these benefits, academic culture lags. But all of these issues are intertwined,
and lead to the pessimism and learned helplessness found in many young researchers regarding their careers across the nation and the world. Because system, training, and culture all intersect to provide a scientist’s well-being and productivity.

Asia & Oceania Post-Doctoral Academia (AOPDA), SAARC-ASEAN Postdoctoral Resource Academia (SAPRA)and SAIRI Postdoctoral Multiversity for the UN SDGs Studies are conjointly conducting high level thematic discussions and mentored sessions on different areas of academic interest and cross-boundary cross-disciplinary emerging expediencies in postdoctoral research, as outlined and demarcated by the SAIRI’s P.I. in the "Reference-line Thematic Monograph for 2017-2018,"
the topics of core-expediencies, ranging from the baseline ‘normatives’ in human studies, the foundational ‘dynamics’ and standard ‘methodics’ in natural and social sciences, to the applied realm-orbs of the higher investigative segment-demesnes
of human enterprise, are brought under reference-line thematic considerations.
The high level thematic discussions, mentored sessions and institutional proceedings throughout the NPAW of postdoctoral research in the Asian and ASEAN regions would be held under the earnest-solemn leadership and worthy directions of
H. E. Justice (R) Dr. S.S. Paru Dehlvi L.L.D., D.Litt., the Chief Patron (CP) and the Chancellery Head (CH) of Asia & Oceania Post-Doctoral Academia (AOPDA), who also continues to hold the status of Chancellor Emeritus
of SAARC-ASEAN Postdoctoral Resource Academia (SAPRA).

Thursday, September 21, 2017
As the 2017 NPAW proceedings coincide with the UN designated Peace Observance Day (Sep. 21st ), AOPDA has dedicated all of the core thematic-focuses to the peace related issues throughout (but not limited to) the day.
In order to mark the UN Peace day in the backdrop of postdoc appreciations, AOPDA would issue a special peace prize and scholarship for Postdoctoral Research in Peace-Conflict Studies. The worthy scholarship medals would
be issued in the names of three merited adornees AOPDA Peace Award, who selflessly strived to raise the voice for Rohingya genocide prevention. The two UN officials; 1- Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein (The UN High Commissioner of Human Rights)
2- Professor Yanghee Lee (UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar). and 3- Dr. Muang Zarni (Academic Researcher and Expert on Ethnic Cleansing),

|
Tuesday, September 19, 2017 - Friday, September 22, 2017
Scientific sessions and technical symposia are also arranged, the topics are ranging from in the Asia, Oceania and particularly in SAARC and ASEAN regions 'Magneto-Hydro-Tropism (MHT)', 'Sub-soil Hydro-Toxicology'. 'Teratogenicity
Research' Pre-birth Disability Prevention Investigative Case Studies', Impacts of DESPO-Asia on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Strategic Frameworks, and several primary topic-ranges of academic importance including Research Methodology.
An additional extravagance of 2017’s highlight of postdoc appreciations would be embraced by the historic launch of the ‘Thematic Concept-Note Monograph’, unveiling the ‘Methodic Overview’ of the recently discovered phenomenon of Magneto-Hydro-Tropism
(MHT-Discovery) by Professor Dr. Qadhi Aurangzeb Al Hafi (the discoverer), at the higher inter-institutional forefronts of the academic ivories of the world.
The newly discovered MHT principle has proved to be a scientific milestone and has evolved to be a ‘core-concept landmark’ in applied sciences, on which the forthcoming centuries would lay the very foundations of new scientific disciplines.
Despite becoming an ‘object of prey’ in its embryonic stages, on accounts of partisan rivalry, the MHT is well paving its way forth to the destinies—it was destined to!
SAARC-ASEAN postdocs are arranging a pledge-based panel discussion on the role that the postdocs and other academicians can play in;
- Ensuring and widening the institutional avenues and academic scopes of peace-related studies in diverse fields of higher research.
- Uplifting the level and quality of multidisciplinary research in the Asian region.
Justice (R) Dr. S.S. Paru would also present a thorough analysis and a tri-fold synthesis of the prevalent situation of ‘social injustice’ that is gradually becoming predominant in the customary frameworks of nearly every sector,
segment and section of human life. The panel discussions are organized by; Dr. Faisar N. M. in Sri Lanka, M S Salawal Salah in New Zealand, and in Pakistanby the SAARC region’s DESIMGOW moderator for 2016-2017, Dr. Khalida M. Khan.
The formal launch of AOPDA’s official website www.aopda.org would take place on September 22, 2017 by marking the last day of NPAW observance in Asia.
