The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) announced a new collaboration with the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) designed to increase the effectiveness of each organization and visibility to each other’s constituencies. The agreement expands participation in one another’s initiatives, including the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS), a project of ASM, and the NPA Annual Conference.
The new agreement provides opportunities to connect with each other’s members and audiences through live and online educational events, volunteer opportunities, and enhanced partner visibility. For example, for more than two decades, ABRCMS “has been the go-to conference for historically excluded communities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.”
The enhanced collaboration with ASM is intended to advance several NPA strategic strategies, including:
support individuals from diverse backgrounds in pursuing and leveraging the postdoc experience to launch their careers
lead engagement of members and partners to promote a more sustainable postdoc experience
create opportunities for postdocs to explore broad career pathways and build skills to advance their careers.
I am interested in contributing to the new collaboration between the National Postdoctoral Association and the American Society for Microbiology, since it strengthens support for postdoctoral scholars and expands inclusive participation across scientific communities. The partnership’s focus on shared activities, skill-building, and visibility through ABRCMS and the NPA Annual Conference aligns with my commitment to supporting researchers from diverse backgrounds. My experience in project writing helps me present scientific ideas clearly for funding and program development, and my work in organizing workshops, seminars, and events has strengthened my abilities in training, outreach, and community engagement. I look forward to contributing these skills to support the partnership’s goals and to help build a more sustainable, equitable, and empowering postdoctoral ecosystem.

This is a great partnership. I have participated in ABRCMS activities and can attest to their dedication to career development for minoritized populations. Looking forward to other large conferences with active affinity groups like the American Society of Cell Biology to also join forces with NPA.
