History

A postdoctoral scholar ("postdoc") is an individual holding a doctoral degree who is engaged in a temporary period of mentored research to acquire the professional skills needed to pursue a career path of their choosing.

In 2002, there was no organization dedicated to improve the postdoctoral experience. The NPA was established with the goal of fostering necessary improvements to the postdoctoral situation in the United States, and to tackle tough issues in the postdoc space and achieve positive policy changes.
