Teresa (Teri) Foy is an immunologist with more than 25 years of biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry experience developing novel therapeutics in the areas of oncology and inflammation. At Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), she leads the Cancer Immunology and Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center. With a mission to drive leadership in the development of immune-based therapies in hematological and solid cancers, she and her team focus on the development and translation of BMS’ early cancer immunology and cell therapy pipeline from discovery through human proof of concept. As part of her research, she also oversees close collaborations with other key research areas across the company, as well as external scientific and business development partnerships. Prior to her role at BMS, Foy worked at Celgene for more than five years. She was instrumental in building the immune-oncology and cell therapy strategy and pipeline. Earlier in her career, she held Seattle-based scientific leadership positions at Corixa Corp. and GlaxoSmithKline. She also served as the chief scientific officer at VLST, a private company focused on developing therapeutics for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Foy earned her doctorate in immunology from the University of Iowa, a master’s degree in microbiology, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in immunology at Dartmouth Medical School. She has an extensive publication record and holds nearly a dozen patents for novel immune compositions. She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Nanostring Technologies and Life Science Washington. Keynote Speaker: Harmit Malik, Ph.D.
Bio taken from this site. "Dr. Harmit Malik studies genetic conflict, the competition between genes and proteins with opposing functions that drives evolutionary change. His research could have implications for a range of diseases, from HIV to cancer. As part of this work, his team developed an approach for identifying genes that divide one species from another, which could help solve the riddle of how new species evolve. Dr. Malik also studies the evolutionary processes that drive our body’s interactions with viruses, including contemporary scourges like HIV as well as ancient viruses whose fossils litter our genome. With Hutch colleagues, he has characterized the rapidly evolving interface between proteins on human cells and viruses that make us sick. This work has highlighted surprising deviations from 'textbook' models of these interactions, and it is revealing gene variants that could influence our susceptibility to infection."
