The NPA Annual Conference is the largest national conference and networking event dedicated to the postdoctoral community. Conference attendees - postdoctoral scholars, administrators, faculty, and representatives from disciplinary societies, industry, and corporations - are provided with the opportunity to gather and enhance their professional development and leadership skills.

The top priority of the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) for all in-person meetings is the safety and welfare of our attendees and staff.

The NPA will follow the strictest guidelines in place at the time of the Conference by the Loews Philadelphia Hotel the city or county department of public health in which the Conference is located, and/or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

By registering for the Conference, you hereby voluntarily assume all risks and accept sole responsibility for any injury related to exposure to COVID-19, and release the NPA, its officers and directors, contractors, subcontractors and volunteers from liability for any injury or harm that may result from attending the Conference. The NPA’s goal is to ensure a safe meeting environment. As such, you also agree to abide by the stricter of any prevention or safety measures that the NPA, the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, the county or city health department where the Conference is located, or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania may have in place during the Conference. You also agree not to attend the Conference if you become ill, are aware that you’ve been directly exposed to the COVID-19 virus within two weeks prior to the Conference, or exhibit any symptoms of the COVID-19 virus prior to or during the Conference. In such a case, the NPA will make best efforts to refund your registration fees less any expenses already incurred or obligated by the NPA.

For 2023, the NPA is offering both a live conference in Philadelphia at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel April 21 & 22, as well as an online virtual conference May 11 & 12. "Dawn Bonnell is the Senior Vice Provost for Research at the University of Pennsylvania. In this capacity Dr. Bonnell shapes policy and advances administrative initiatives for the University’s $900+ million research enterprise as well as plays a leadership role in strategic planning for research and administers the development of new research facilities.

"She also helps to oversee campus-wide research planning efforts, linkages between the University and industry, and the transfer of technologies from University laboratories to the public sector. In addition, she governs the research activities of Provostial Centers and Institutes, particularly those involving interdisciplinary collaboration.

"Dr. Bonnell is Henry Robinson Towne Professor of Engineering and Applied Science and a member of the Bioengineering Graduate Group in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. In 2004, she became the founding director of the Nano/Bio Interface Center – created through an initial $11.4 million grant from the National Science Foundation – which brings together researchers across Penn’s Schools to study the intersections of technology and biology at the nanoscale or molecular level. In this role she demonstrated leadership integrating knowledge across campus, working with a wide range of departments and colleagues to advance Penn’s distinction in scientific research and interdisciplinary education.

"An editor of seven books and an author of more than 200 papers, Dr. Bonnell was elected in 2013 to the National Academy of Engineering, one of the highest honors in the engineering profession, is one of only seven awardees of the Staudinger-Durrer Medal from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and has served as President of the American Vacuum Society and Vice President of the American Ceramic Society. Her work has been recognized by a Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation, the Robert B. Sosman Award and Ross Coffin Purdy Award from the American Ceramic Society, the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Michigan, and numerous other awards and prestigious national and international lectureships.

"Her research focuses on the properties of surfaces, especially at the atomic scale, with wide implications for understanding the behavior of devices from biosensors to solar cells to computer processors. She earned a PhD, MS, and BSE in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan and studied on a Fulbright Scholarship at the Max Planck Institute in Stuttgart, Germany."
