Speakers: Lawrence Healey and John McWilliams

Lawrence Healey joined the Gallagher Student Health & Special Risk team in 2005. He is responsible for developing new accident and sickness programs for college students at institutions in New England, New York, New Jersey, Michigan and other states throughout the country. Lawrence works closely with risk managers, health services and student affairs in developing opportunities to submit competitive proposals. He oversees relationships with the insurance underwriters, claims administrators and other vendors in the practice. He is responsible for new business growth as well as retention of his existing block of business. Additionally, Lawrence provides training and mentoring support to the Sales Team and other new members of Gallagher Student Health.

Prior to joining Gallagher Student, Lawrence worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA for just over seven years, holding positions in customer service and large employer group account management. He previously held positions at Tufts Health Plan (a local HMO in Massachusetts) in large group sales and account management for eight years, managing self-insured employee benefit programs. He interacted with the employer plan sponsor, broker or consultant of record and managing general underwriters, and provided client service support on claims and administrative services issues. Lawrence has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Massachusetts and an MPA in Health Management from Suffolk University.

John McWilliams joined Gallagher in 2003 and brings extensive employee benefits experience, with a focus on strategic planning, health care plan financial review, carrier negotiations, wellbeing & engagement, claims utilization reporting, and overall account management.

John is an experienced Area Vice President with a demonstrated history helping groups 1) attract and retain people through Employees Benefits, 2) navigate the complex world of Human Resources, and 3) mitigate the risks they face. John oversees Gallagher’s Student & Scholar Services unit that provides Benefits and administration to the Postdoctoral and Visiting Scholars of universities across the United States. The Student & Scholar Services unit can also provide health coverage to academics traveling abroad when outside the US for extended assignments. John and his dedicated team specialize in developing unified programs that eliminate obstacles and offer a broad spectrum of benefits to all scholars, regardless of category or funding source, so their focus can stay on the research that creates a better tomorrow for us all.

Prior to joining Gallagher Benefit Services, John worked at Aon Consulting and William M. Mercer, Inc. in their Orange County offices. John lives in San Clemente with his wife and two children and works in Gallagher’s San Diego and Irvine offices. Prior to beginning his 30+ year career in benefits consulting, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with an emphasis in Business Management from the University of California, Irvine. He is a member of the Orange County Employee Benefit Council and has served as a Director on the Council’s Board and Committee Chairman.
