Postdoc associations (PDA) are recognized groups that provide a unified voice to advocate for improvements with the administration at their institution. PDAs are a vibrant and dynamic source of support for postdoctoral scholars at their home institutions and nationally. They provide important networking and community building outlets for their postdoc community.
All organizations that employ or support postdocs professionally are eligible to become organizational sustaining members.
The NPA believes that appropriate training of the next generation of independent researchers requires that institutions set policies to encourage individual responsibility, foster effective mentoring, and recognize the value and contributions of postdoctoral scholars. Our "Supporting the Needs of Postdocs: 2017 National Postdoctoral Association Institutional Policy Report" was written in collaboration with Sigma Xi and published in American Scientist. The report summarizes the results from a 2016 survey of 130 institutions that hire postdocs and hold NPA memberships.
