Dear members of the postdoctoral community,

We are deeply saddened by the tragic losses of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others due to senseless acts of violence, and we stand in solidarity with the Black community to denounce racism, discrimination, and bias. We mourn these losses while in the midst of a global pandemic that has disproportionately impacted communities of color. These past few weeks have been challenging and highlight a myriad of societal problems that unjustly burden our marginalized communities.

We acknowledge the vital work of black researchers and professionals in the postdoctoral community. We encourage our Sustaining Members to prioritize eliminating barriers to progress for those in historically marginalized communities with the recognition that, as a community, we generate our most innovative collective insights when all members of our community are equipped and empowered to do their best work. The National Postdoctoral Association is committed to amplifying voices, facilitating dialogue, and providing tools to advance practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Working together, we can intentionally create a better future for our postdoctoral community.
