The NPA Board of Directors has been working hard to support the postdoctoral community. NPA Board members are upholding NPA’s mission through outreach, mentoring, and professional development opportunities. Their work has been presented at conferences and workshops and through webinars. Here are just a few examples of their ongoing work!

Tracy Costello, PhD, gave a poster presentation titled “Non-traditional Internships for Postdoctoral Fellows” at the Future of Bioscience Graduate and Postdoctoral Training Conference, Part 2 (FOBGAPT2) held on June 9-10, 2017 in Denver, CO. The presentation highlighted the efforts of the Moffitt Cancer Center Division of Education and Training to create training opportunities that “supplement the traditional training environment.” Costello’s presentation highlighted the successes of internship programs that provide postdoctoral scholars and graduate students with a chance to be exposed to careers in non-traditional fields, such as intellectual property and technology transfer. The poster was also presented at the Graduate Career Consortium Conference in Houston, TX, June 27-30, 2017.

Josh Henkin, PhD, delivered several presentations, workshops, and webinars. His May webinar, “Think beyond compensation and job title: Why you should consider organizational culture during a job search” can be found in the myPostdoc Monthly Webinar section. On May 4, 2017, Henkin gave a presentation on resume writing, networking, and other professional development topics at the 2017 Derby Partnering Summit in Covington, KY. On May 18 and 19, 2017, Henkin conducted two workshops at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL: “Shred Your CV and Write a Resume—Inside Tips You Need to Hear from a PhD Hiring Manager” and “Leveraging LinkedIn—Attracting Recruiters and Finding the Best Jobs.”
