National Postdoctoral Association

Providing a national voice and seeking positive change for postdocs.
Overview

One of the main issues driving the formation of the NPA was the need for national policy changes to address structural and systemic problems affecting postdocs.  The need for policy changes at the institutional level is also a paramount concern.  The NPA has developed an action agenda to advocate for policy changes in the following areas:

  • a standard definition for the postdoctoral appointment;
  • uniform policies and procedures governing the treatment of postdocs;
  • adequate compensation and benefits;
  • a greater emphasis on mentoring and training components of the postdoc;
  • fostering professional development and the transition to independence.

The NPA Policy pages contains a variety of resources that the NPA has developed and/or identified to address these issues effectively.  The resources are organized under the following categories:

To provide leadership on policy issues, the NPA has appointed the Policy Committee, which includes two subcommittees focused on institutional and national policies.  Click here to learn more about the Policy Committee and how it works.
