NPA Historical Timeline

  • July 2002

  • Planning Grant Proposal was submitted by postdoctoral committee.

  • August 2002

  • AAAS Education and Human Resources Directorate agrees to serve as sponsor for the grant and agrees to support the creation of the NPA.

  • September 3, 2002

  • NPA Steering Committee, meets in Washington, DC to draft a 3-year development proposal and pursue collaborations with other organizations including Science's Nextwave and Postdoc Network, the AAU and CPST.

  • November 2, 2002

  • Grant Proposal/ Business Plan for 18-months of funding submitted to the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

  • December 2002

  • Funding approved by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for first 18 months of NPA operations.

  • January 2003

  • Official start of NPA. Search for Executive Director begins.

  • January 12-15, 2003

  • Steering Committee meets in Washington, DC to pursue collaborations and support from National Institutes of Health, National Sscience Foundation, AAMC GREAT Group, NRC/NAS, etc.
