Call for Poster Abstract

Deadline for submission: January 9, 2012

Examples of Poster Content | Judging Criteria | Submit an Abstract

The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) invites you to participate in the 10th Anniversary of the NPA Annual Meeting! The 2012 Annual Meeting Poster Competition will be held March 16-18 at the Sir Francisco Drake Hotel in downtown San Francisco, California.

This competition is an excellent opportunity to share unique training programs, best practices, successful postdoctoral events and other Postdoctoral Association (PDA)/Postdoctoral Office (PDO) accomplishments at your institution with other meeting attendees. We believe that this aspect of our meeting fosters idea exchange and meaningful discussion, allowing participants to emulate successful programs at their institutions. In addition, the poster session is an ideal forum for newer PDAs or PDOs to solicit advice from our more experienced members.

To participate, please submit an abstract (250 word limit) using the form provided. Previous meeting participants have stated that they would have submitted an abstract had they known what was appropriate to present. For that reason, we offer a few examples for poster topics in the list below. This list is not exhaustive; please submit posters on other relevant topics as you see fit.

Examples of Poster Content at the NPA Meeting

  • Creating a PDA or PDO at your institution
  • Increasing postdoctoral participation in the PDA
  • Lobbying administration for funding or a PDO position
  • Creation of a career training seminar series, workshop or certification programs
  • Strategies for a successful a PDO-PDA relationship
  • Creating a postdoc orientation
  • Organizing a career fair
  • What your PDA/PDO did during postdoc appreciation week
  • Providing unique training opportunities for career transition

To recognize outstanding posters and poster session participants, we will acknowledge the top 3 presenters with an award. Posters and presenters will be evaluated anonymously during the poster session based upon the following criteria:

  • Content - relevance to NPA goals and dissemination of ideas/information with the potential to make a significant impact on the postdoc population
  • Communication - overall visual appeal of poster content and clear presentation of ideas
