California Berkeley NPAW Reception
September 21, 2017, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Come join the Visiting Scholar and Postdoc Affairs Program (VSPA) sponsored reception to honor University of California, Berkeley postdocs at the Bancroft Hotel - 2680 Bancroft Way


In conjunction with this special event, posters representing VSPA's various programs will be on display at the reception. During the event VSPA will recognize outstanding faculty mentors on campus with a Faculty Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Mentoring. In addition to this, the Visiting Scholar and Postdoc Affairs Program will announce the winners of the 2017 Postdoc Leadership Award awarded to postdocs who  organize important events--networking or academic, on campus, regularly lead by example, or simply boost the morale of others with small yet meaningful gestures. 


The University of California, Davis Graduate Studies will be hosting a dinner on Tuesday, September 19 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

    The UC Davis Internship and Career Center will host a "Get the Scoop" ice cream social at 229 and 234 South Hall on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Eat ice cream and learn about career resources that are available for postdocs!

Outstanding Postdoc and Mentor Awards

With the support from the Research & Innovation Office, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) will be awarding two Outstanding Postdoc and one Outstanding Mentor awards during NPAW 2017.


The Outstanding Postdoc Awards recognize postdoctoral scholars currently coded as postdoctoral associates, research associates or post-doctoral fellows who demonstrate exemplary research contributions, leadership and communication for their career stage, independent of years of postdoctoral experience. Awardees will receive a $250 Visa gift card.


The Outstanding Mentor Award recognizes a faculty member who provides exemplary leadership and training to postdoctoral scholars at CU Boulder.

Farmington UConn Health is holding its first Postdoc Research Day on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in conjunction with postdocs from The Jackson Laboratories. This event will include a series of four-minute talks from 24 of UConn Health postdocs, a poster session and a keynote address from a former UConn Health postdoc.
District of Columbia   Georgetown University is hosting a PDA launch party on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in Bldg. D, Room 301. Meet and mingle with Georgetown’s diverse group of postdoctoral fellows. Light refreshments served. All fellows, faculty, and staff are welcome!

The Rush Postdoctoral Society will host "Integrative Negotiation" on Thursday, September 14, 2017. The event will be presented by Joseph Bernstein, Ph.D., M.B.A. candidate, class of 2019, Chicago Booth School of Business.


Bernstein will be presenting on general approaches to integrative negotiating approaches and skills. When a negotiation is appropriate/what can be negotiated over, how to enter into a negotiation, and how to identify the approach of the other party and move the negotiation into a more integrative framework. He will debrief a short negotiation simulation that puts the concepts from the talk into practice.

Learn what to consider and strategies to use when searching for a postdoctoral position that suits your professional goals


During NPAW, a number of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) departments will host activities for postdocs in their areas.


On Thursday, September 28, 2017, MIT will host a barbecue luncheon for postdocs and faculty to express our appreciation for postdocs.


The Wayne State University Postdoctoral Association (WSU-PDA) is celebrating NPAW 2017 to honor WSU postdoctoral scholars and recognize the contributions they make to the research at WSU.


WSU will start its celebrations with the annual picnic on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Belle Isle.


Wayne State University will be hosting the Michigan Regional Postdoctoral Symposium on Friday, September 22, 2017.  


WSU hopes to see great research from postdoctoral scholars from all over Michigan. Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Van Andel Research Institute, and Wayne State University are among the universities/institutes attending. The symposium will offer professional development seminars, posters, 3MT presentation competition and great networking opportunity for all attendees.

Nebraska Lincoln The Office of Postdoctoral Studies and the Postdoc Advisory Council at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will once again host their NPAW reception on Thursday, September 21, 2017, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Van Brunt Visitors Center. Postdocs, PIs, faculty, and administrators are invited to attend. A light meal and beverages will be served following a brief recognition program.
