Aumiller and Zander Join Outreach Committee Leadership

The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) Board of Directors has appointed Jennifer Aumiller, M.Ed., and Catherine Brooks Zander, Ph.D., as co-chair and vice chair of the Outreach Committee respectively. Aumiller and Zander join Shakira Nelson, Ph.D., in leading this committee.

 

Jennifer Aumiller, M.Ed., has worked as the director of Career and Professional Development and Office of Postdoctoral Scholars at the University of Maryland School of Medicine since 2013. In her role, she manages postdoctoral affairs for the School of Medicine and directs career and professional development activities for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.

                             

She received her bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University and her master's degree in higher education administration from the University of North Texas. She started working at the University of Maryland School of Medicine Department of Physiology in 2002 as the coordinator for the graduate program. From there, she went on to become the program manager for the program in neuroscience. During this time, she helped bring alumni career speakers to the Annual Neuroscience Retreat and began working with postdoctoral scholars within the neuroscience program. Since working in the Office of Career and Professional Development, she has developed and implemented individual development plans for all graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and served as the local co-host for the 2015 NPA Annual Meeting at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

 

Catherine Brooks Zander, Ph.D., is originally from Vestal, N.Y., and currently lives in Birmingham, Ala. She is a research fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She works within the pathology department, under mentor X. Long Zheng, with a focus on the molecular interactions associated with the rare clotting disease, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). Zander has a doctorate from The State University of New York at Binghamton in chemistry, where she studied the kinetics of transmembrane transporters. She has been part of the NPA since 2016.
