The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) Board of Directors has appointed Erin Heckler, Ph.D., as co-chair of the Resource Development Committee. Heckler joins Sarah Hokanson, Ph.D., in leading this committee.
Erin Heckler, Ph.D., has worked in the Officer of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs at the University of Chicago since 2015 as an administrator. In this role, she supports the PDA, manages postdoctoral affairs, and in 2015 implemented an "Entering Mentoring" certificate program for postdocs.
Heckler received her bachelor's degree from Rutgers University - New Brunswick, and her doctorate degree in biochemistry from the University of Delaware. She returned to Rutgers University - New Jersey Medical School for her postdoctoral work to continue her scientific interests in redox enzymology. During this time, she served as executive officer of that campus’ PDA and as a founding member of a postdoc and graduate student group, the Alliance for Career Advancement as the vice president for postdoctoral affairs. This service led her to a career in postdoctoral affairs advocating for postdocs and working to improve the postdoctoral experience. Since joining the University of Chicago, she has helped organize the Future of Research Chicago 2015 and to disseminate and analyze data from the 2016 National Postdoctoral Survey, working closely with the PDA.
