The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) congratulates the Future of Research (FOR) postdoctoral scholars on being named the 2015 Science Careers People of the Year. FOR energized a broad spectrum of researchers and experts to talk about the issues confronting postdocs in the research enterprise.

“Postdocs are essential to the progress and success of the research enterprise,” said Kate Sleeth, Ph.D., chair of the NPA 2016 Board of Directors. “Improving the working environment for postdocs is critical, and Future of Research has done great work shining a light on these issues.”

FOR established a forum for researchers at all levels to have serious discussions and develop innovative methods to ensure workforce reforms benefit postdocs and other research enterprise stakeholders. The NPA applauds these efforts and is proud to have partnered with FOR at the 2015 NPA Annual Meeting in Baltimore to help spread the word about the work being done by this group.

As an organization representing over 77,000 postdocs across the United States, the NPA has long worked on behalf of postdocs and has a strong track-record of advocacy on postdoc issues. Recently, the NPA published the Advancing Postdoc Women Guidebook, which outlines essential resources for postdoc women as they progress through their careers. The NPA looks forward to working with FOR and other advocacy groups to improve the environment for postdoctoral researchers in all fields across the country.
