Washington, D.C. – The National Postdoctoral Association’s (NPA) sixth annual celebration of National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) will take place September 21 – 25, 2015.
NPAW, the nation’s largest celebration of postdoctoral scholars, was established with the goal of increasing awareness of postdocs. Institutions are encouraged to plan activities that honor postdocs and recognize the contributions they make to research and development in the United States. Past events have included wine and cheese receptions, postdoc photo contests, professional development workshops, game nights, and networking events. In 2014, 303 events were hosted at 98 institutions in 35 states and Canada. For information on this year’s events, see: https://nationalpostdoc.org/?2015NPAW.
NPAW grew out of National Postdoc Appreciation Day, which was held on September 24, 2009. In 2010, NPAW culminated with the passage of H.RES. 1545 by the U.S. House of Representatives. The resolution, which was passed on September 24, 2010, nationally recognizes NPAW.
NPAW is coordinated by the NPA Outreach Committee, which works to promote the mission, values, goals, and business objectives of the NPA. Andrew Bankston, Ph.D., and Shakira Nelson, Ph.D., serve as chair and vice chair, respectively, of the committee.
