Access to Members-Only Content

Your NPA membership gives you access to members-only web content such as the Institutional Policy Database, The Postdoctoral Office (PDO) Toolkit, The Postdoctoral Association (PDA) Toolkit, the International Postdoc Survival Guide and the NPA Listserv.

Annual Meeting Discount

As an Individual Member, you can attend the NPA Annual Meeting under a reduced registration rate. You are also eligible for the NPA Travel Award Program which subsidizes travel, lodging, and registration during the NPA Annual Meeting. For details on previous meetings visit NPA Annual Meetings. In 2009, the meeting will be held in Houston, Texas, and it will feature a parallel track for postdoc association leaders and institutional administrators.

Professional & Leadership Development

Not only is the NPA a valuable resource on postdoctoral issues, it is also a resource for professional and leadership development. The NPA provides these resources in the members-only content area and hard copies can be sent to you upon request. We also have opportunities to further develop your professional and leadership skills by serving on any of our eight membership committees or running for a seat on the executive board.

Access to Health Insurance

The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) and Garnett-Powers and Associates, Inc. have joined together to offer a health insurance plan to full, individual NPA members who do not have access to health insurance. Benefit coverage for the new plan is provided through StudentResources, a UnitedHealthcare company specializing in university health programs.

The Postdoctoral Scholar Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan offers postdoctoral researchers single coverage at a reasonable cost ranging from $182.50 to $215.50 per month. The postdoc must be a full, individual member of the NPA to be eligible for the plan. The full, individual membership fee for postdoctoral scholars is only $35 a year.

Some of the important features of the plan are:

• Low monthly cost
• Access to a large nationwide panel of physicians
• Low co-pays and co-insurance for doctor's visits, hospitalization, lab, x-ray and prescriptions
• Coverage is available for your eligible dependents, including domestic partners
• Maternity is covered
• Coverage is guaranteed regardless of any medical condition
• All J1 visa requirements for medical coverage, repatriation and medical evacuation are satisfied by enrollment in this plan.
