National Postdoctoral Association Executive Director Position Description
The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit private corporation located in Washington, DC, providing a national voice and seeking positive change for postdoctoral researchers. Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall sustainability (including fund and grant development), management and operation of the NPA. The Executive Director should be a visionary and strategic leader who can work effectively at the intersections of academia, government, industry, professional societies, and funding organizations on issues pertaining to postdoctoral researchers. Successful candidates will have strong fundraising, organizational, administrative, and financial management skills. Strong written and oral communication skills are critical to ensure that the Executive Director will be effective and persuasive in presenting the NPA and its mission to its members, various government agencies, and other stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Executive Director:
A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required; an advanced degree is preferred. Five to ten years managerial and fundraising experience in the non-profit sector and executive experience are highly preferred. Successful experience in fundraising, general management, financial management, and strategic planning is highly preferred. Knowledge of higher education and the scientific research enterprise strongly desired. Successful candidates will have experience that will demonstrate the ability to conceptualize, develop, and evaluate programs. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
