Barbara Natalizio, Ph.D.
Outreach Committee Co-Chair
(Contact)

Barbara J. Natalizio, Ph.D., earned her bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and History from Montclair State University and her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology from Duke University. Upon completion of her graduate studies, she taught for two years as adjunct faculty and it was during this time that she developed an appreciation for the critical importance of effective communication and science outreach. In 2010, she accepted a postdoctoral position at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where her current research investigates messenger RNA export regulation and its effects on eukaryotic gene expression. At Vanderbilt University, she successfully advocated for postdoctoral fellows by becoming actively involved with the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Postdoctoral Association leading the organization as Senior Co-Chair and serving on the Board of Directors of the Vanderbilt Medical Alumni Association. Natalizio continues to promote the enrichment of the postdoctoral experience at Vanderbilt by contributing to the planning and development of several initiatives focused on professional career development for postdoctoral scholars. As Vice Chair of the Outreach Committee, she looks forward to establishing new outreach initiatives on the national level to empower postdoctoral fellows and encourage them to seize every opportunity to reach their full potential.
