Meet Our Outreach Committee Leaders
Andrew Bankston, Ph.D.
Andrew Bankston, Ph.D., earned his doctorate in 2013 from the Biochemistry, Cell and Developmental Biology program at Emory University in the lab of Dr. Yue Feng. He is currently a postdoctoral associate in the lab of Dr. Scott Whittemore at the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center at University of Louisville. His research focuses on the role of autophagy in developmental myelination and myelin repair after injury.
Shakira Nelson, Ph.D.
Shakira Nelson, Ph.D., is originally from Rochester, NY, and currently lives in Rockville, MD. She is a Cancer Prevention fellow at the National Cancer Institute, working in the Nutritional Epidemiology Branch where she focuses on diet, cancer, and health disparities. Nelson has a doctorate from The Pennsylvania State University in immunology and infectious diseases, and a Master of Public Health from The Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She has been a part of NPA since 2014.
