NPA Announces New Board Officers Print E-mail

January 7, 2010

The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) Board of Directors has appointed officers for 2010. They are: Chair, Stacy L. Gelhaus, Ph.D.; Vice Chair, Lorraine Tracy, Ph.D.; Treasurer, Daniel Gorelick, Ph.D.; and Electoral Officer, Ian Brooks, Ph.D.

Governance Committee Chairs were also appointed. Rachel Ruhlen, Ph.D., will serve as the Fundraising Chair, and Lori Conlan, Ph.D., will serve as the Strategic Planning Chair. As Treasurer, Gorelick will serve as Chair of the Finance Committee, and, as Electoral Officer, Brooks will serve as Chair of the Board Development and Oversight Committees.

"The guidance of the Board of Directors is essential to the governance of this volunteer-driven organization. To be an NPA Board member involves an inordinate amount of time and energy, and to be an officer or chair of a committee increases that involvement. I look forward to working with the 2010 Board, which will, among many other efforts, review our national advocacy policy," said Cathee Johnson Phillips, Executive Director of the NPA. "At the same time, I will miss interacting with the outgoing officers and directors. Their contribution of time and energy during a year of transition for the NPA quite literally amazed me. I can never thank them enough."

Outgoing Board members are: Jennifer Pohlhaus, Ph.D., who served as Vice Chair; Judy Ho, Ph.D., who served as Treasurer in both 2008 and 2009; Wendy Williams, Ph.D., who served as Chair of the Board Development Committee; Jonathan Gitlin, Ph.D., who served as Chair of the Governance Committee Taskforce; and Maxine Watson, Ph.D., who served as Board Liaison to the Resource Development Committee.

All of the NPA Board members are or have been postdoctoral scholars.
